Our Story
Two decades of connecting businesses with exceptional finance talent
MATTER Talent was originally founded as MatureAccountants.com in 2005 with a simple idea: UK SMEs deserved access to experienced finance professionals who could genuinely make a difference to their businesses.
From the beginning the firm was built differently to most recruitment agencies. It was run by individuals with finance and consulting backgrounds who understood the roles they were recruiting for and the challenges faced by growing businesses.
Over the past two decades we have supported more than 2,000 organisations across the UK, helping founders, CEOs and boards hire finance leaders ranging from Financial Controllers through to CFOs.
During that time we have built one of the UK's most established networks of senior finance professionals, with relationships across more than 30,000 finance leaders.

Managing Director · London / North YorkshireNils is Managing Director at MA & Matter Talent, leading recruitment across Permanent, Interim and Fractional finance roles. Before running the business, he worked in financial consulting for Accenture and spent 15 years in London before moving up to Harrogate in 2025. There isn't much in the SME finance space he hasn't recruited for… Outside work his two young children keep him busy, and any spare time goes on sport: golf, hockey, CrossFit, or watching Arsenal at the Emirates.
Andrea Groom-Shorter
Senior Consultant · KentAndrea has 30 years' experience in accountancy, starting out as a trainee with a large firm in Kent before moving into roles including the Duchy of Cornwall and financial analyst positions across oil, construction and IT sectors. She went on to set up her own practice offering bookkeeping, accountancy and tax services to small businesses.
