About the Company

Finance Director – Regulated Fintech

  • Location: London / Hybrid
  • Salary: £130,000–£150,000 FTE + bonus + benefits + share options
  • Working Pattern: 3–4 days per week

The Opportunity

Matter Talent is working with an exciting, early-stage FCA-regulated fintech to recruit a Finance Director who will play a pivotal role in the next stage of the company's growth.

The business is a VC-backed, FCA Authorised Electronic Money Institution developing a modern working capital platform for SMEs. Combining regulated financial infrastructure, credit expertise and technology, the company is building an innovative alternative to traditional business funding.

Reporting directly to the CEO, this is a broad and highly visible position combining financial leadership, hands-on financial control, FP&A, regulatory finance and strategic support.

The role would particularly suit someone looking for a senior 3–4 day per week position within a growing fintech environment.

Role Details

As Finance Director, you will take ownership of the finance function and work closely with the CEO, leadership team, Board, investors and external advisers.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Ownership of management reporting, budgeting, forecasting and scenario planning
  • Cash management, liquidity forecasting and capital planning
  • Board and investor reporting, providing clear financial insight to support decision-making
  • Maintaining a robust financial control environment appropriate for an FCA-regulated business
  • Supporting regulatory reporting and working closely with compliance and operational teams
  • Oversight of safeguarding, reconciliations and other finance-related operational controls
  • Statutory reporting, year-end, audit and corporation tax processes
  • Supporting future equity and debt fundraising, including financial modelling, due diligence and investor materials
  • Improving finance systems, processes, reporting and data as the business scales
  • Oversight of outsourced bookkeeping, payroll, accounts payable and month-end processes
  • Helping shape the future structure and development of the finance function

This is a genuinely hands-on position. The successful candidate will need to be equally comfortable discussing strategy and funding with the CEO and Board as they are getting into the detail of cashflow, reporting, controls and month-end

Skills Required

Previous experience within an FCA-regulated financial services environment is essential.

We are looking for someone who can demonstrate:

  • Significant senior finance experience within fintech, payments, lending, banking or another FCA-regulated financial services business
  • Strong financial control, reporting and FP&A experience
  • A strong understanding of operating within a regulated environment
  • Experience of cash, liquidity and capital management
  • The ability to operate both strategically and hands-on within a smaller, fast-moving business
  • Confidence working directly with CEOs, Boards, investors, auditors and regulatory/compliance stakeholders
  • Experience improving financial processes, controls and systems
  • Strong commercial judgement and communication skills

Experience within a VC-backed fintech, EMI or payments business, together with exposure to fundraising, would be particularly advantageous. The underlying brief specifically highlights VC-backed, fundraising and EMI/payments experience as particularly valuable.

A professional accounting qualification such as ACA, ACCA or CIMA would be strongly preferred.
